DIY TV Repair: Samsung Part Identification 101

DisclaimerThere are way too many variations to list every possible example. If, after using this guide you are still not sure what parts to order, please call in to the office or email us at info@tvpartstoday.com.

If you are getting ready to repair your Samsung television yourself, you are already on the right track. At TVpartsToday, The World's #1 Hub for DIY TV Repair, we have seen firsthand that the difference between a successful repair and a frustrating experience often comes down to one critical step: identifying the correct part number before you order anything.

Samsung TVs are known for having multiple numbers printed across their internal boards, and this is where many DIYers run into trouble. It is easy to assume that any number printed on the board will work for ordering, but that is not the case. Only the manufacturer’s part number guarantees compatibility. Everything else, including board numbers and PCB identifiers, can lead you in the wrong direction.

Understanding the Difference Between Part Numbers and Board Numbers

Before diving into specific components, it is important to understand why part numbers matter so much. A part number is assigned by the manufacturer to identify a specific version of a board that is compatible with certain panels, firmware, and configurations. Board numbers, on the other hand, are used during production and may apply to multiple variations that are not interchangeable.

Two boards may look identical and even share the same board number, but still function differently once installed. This is why ordering based on appearance or partial numbers often results in a mismatch.

TVpartsToday Tip: If you ever feel unsure, a quick photo of your board and its barcode label can save you time and money. Our team can confirm the exact part number before you place an order.

PLEASE NOTE: In the following pictures, the manufacturer's part number is circled in GREEN and is the number you need to match to your part to ensure you get the correct part. The numbers marked with a RED "X" are board numbers used in the manufacturing process and matching these numbers will not guarantee a compatible part. We have not put a red "X" on all board numbers present on the parts pictured.

Samsung Main Boards and How to Identify Them

The main board is the central control system of your television. It processes video signals, manages audio output, controls HDMI inputs, and runs all smart TV functions. When this board fails, you may experience issues such as no picture, unresponsive inputs, app crashes, or repeated rebooting.

Samsung main board part numbers are typically found on a white barcode label and usually begin with BN94 or BN96. These are the numbers you should rely on when ordering a replacement.

Below is an example of a Samsung main board:

It is important to ignore numbers that begin with BN41 or BN97. These are board numbers used during manufacturing and do not guarantee compatibility with your specific TV. Even if the board looks identical, using one of these numbers can result in receiving a part that does not function properly.

Taking the time to locate the correct BN94 or BN96 number ensures that your replacement board will match the firmware and hardware configuration of your television.

Samsung Power Supply Boards and Proper Identification

The power supply board is responsible for distributing electricity to every component inside your TV. When it begins to fail, symptoms can include a TV that will not turn on, shuts down unexpectedly, or produces clicking sounds during startup.

Samsung power supply part numbers are generally easy to identify once you know what to look for. Most will begin with BN44, and this is the number you should use when searching for a replacement.

These numbers may appear directly on the board or on a barcode label. In some cases, the formatting may vary slightly, but the BN44 identifier remains the key element.

Below is an example of a Samsung power supply board:

Other numbers printed on the board, such as PCB identifiers or internal production codes, should not be used for ordering. These numbers may correspond to multiple variations and will not guarantee a proper match.

Even when two power boards look nearly identical, small differences in voltage output or connector layout can prevent proper operation. This is why exact part number matching is so important.

Samsung T-Con Boards and Their Unique Labeling

The T-Con board plays a critical role in image processing by controlling how pixel data is delivered to the screen. When this board fails, you may see issues such as vertical lines, distorted colors, flickering images, or a completely black screen despite having sound.

Samsung T-Con boards can be slightly more challenging to identify because the full part number is not always printed clearly. In many cases, you will only see a portion of the number on the sticker. Below is an example of a Samsung T-con board:

A common format includes part numbers that begin with LJ94, followed by a series of digits and a final letter. However, the LJ94 prefix is often omitted on the board itself. You may only see the numeric portion, which means you need to add the prefix when searching for the correct replacement.

For example, a board labeled with a number ending in 39433C would correspond to a full part number of LJ94-39433C. Below is an example of this type of Samsung T-con with this type of labeling for the part number:

Careful inspection is important here, as T-Con numbers are often printed in smaller text and can be easy to overlook.

Power Supply and Main Board Combo Units

Some Samsung televisions use a combined board that integrates both the power supply and main board into a single unit. These combo boards can be confusing at first glance because they appear to be two separate boards mounted together.

The good news is that these units are typically easier to identify because their part numbers often begin with BN96. This consistent prefix helps distinguish them from standard individual boards.

Below is an example of this kind of Samsung combo board:

If your board includes both power connections and input ports in one assembly, you are likely dealing with a combo unit. While these parts can be more expensive, they also replace two major components at once, simplifying the repair process.

Why Accurate Identification Matters

Ordering the wrong part does more than delay your repair. It can lead to additional troubleshooting confusion, unnecessary returns, and in some cases, potential damage if the incorrect board sends incompatible signals or voltages through your TV.

Even experienced technicians rely on part number verification before installing any replacement. This step eliminates guesswork and ensures that the repair process remains efficient and predictable.
