Identification 101 (And Why It Matters!)

Identification 101 (And Why It Matters!)

Mike Smith |

So you’re ready to replace a TV board – awesome! But before you dive into your DIY repair project, there’s one crucial step you can’t skip: getting the correct part number. We see it all the time - ordering based on the board number instead of the part number leads to mismatched parts, wasted time, and unnecessary frustration.

That’s why we’ve put together this handy guide to identifying part numbers for the four major brands we work with the most at TVpartsToday: Samsung, Vizio, LG, and Sony. Knowing exactly what to look for can make all the difference between a smooth DIY fix and a repair headache.

Let’s break it down by brand - with real tips, real formats, and real DIY confidence.

Samsung: The Easiest to Identify

Samsung has the most consistent labeling format, making part number hunting a breeze.

  • Main Boards: Look for a white sticker with a part number that starts with BN94-XXXXX or BN96-XXXXX.
  • Power Supply Boards: Typically start with BN44-XXXXX.
  • T-Con Boards: Most start with BN95-XXXXX or BN96-XXXXX.

Watch Out! Samsung boards also list board numbers like BN97-XXXXX, which should NOT be used to order parts. Always go with the part number instead.

TVpartsToday Tip:
If you're unsure whether you're looking at a board number or a part number, snap a picture and send it to us! We’ll confirm it for you, no pressure, no guesswork.

Vizio: More Variation, But We’ve Got You

Vizio part numbers are a bit trickier, but totally doable with the right know-how.

  • Main Boards: Look for a sticker with a partial number like GXICB02K039 and convert it to the full part number by adding 756T to the front.
  • Power Supply Boards: Start with ADTV (e.g., ADTVN5714AAX).
  • T-Con Boards: These vary widely in style and number format - so don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re not sure what you’re looking at.

TVpartsToday Tip:
We decode Vizio numbers every day! Just shoot us an email or call us and we’ll walk you through it - no judgment, just help.

LG: Keep an Eye on the Prefixes

LG uses a few different prefixes, and it’s easy to get tripped up by board numbers vs part numbers.

  • Main Boards: Look for a sticker with EBTXXXXX - this is your part number. Sometimes LG switches it up and uses EBR or EBU as the prefix, but this is less common.
  • Power Supply Boards: Your target is EAYXXXXX.
  • T-Con Boards: Usually begin with 6871L-XXXXX, but the “6871L” won’t always be printed - you’ll need to add it manually before searching.

⚠️ Don't Use: Numbers starting with EAX - these are board numbers, not part numbers!

TVpartsToday Tip:
Print looking fuzzy or hard to read? Snap a pic in good lighting and we’ll help you sort it out - fast.

Sony: The Trickiest of the Bunch

Sony likes to keep things interesting. Their main board part numbers often aren’t printed on the board at all!

  • Main Boards: Use the number on the white sticker to search on TVpartsToday.com - we’ve built a database to match those numbers to actual part numbers. It should look like: AXXXXXXXA, or perhaps A-XXXX-XXX-A.

  • Power Supply Boards: Much easier! Look for a 9-digit number (sometimes with dashes) printed on a white sticker. For example, 1-010-150-11.

  • T-Con Boards: Often follow formats like 6871L-XXXXX or LJ94-XXXXX, similar to other brands - but beware: Sony may use internal part numbers, too.

TVpartsToday Tip:
When in doubt, trust our part matching system. Just enter the number from your sticker into our search bar and let our database do the work for you.

Final Thoughts: Precision Matters in DIY Repairs

There are literally thousands of part number variations out there, and some can look deceptively similar across brands. That’s especially true for t-con boards! So always double-check your part number before you hit that “Buy” button.
